And you think politics today goes to extremes. This 3.5" x 5.5" cardstock item is a poll card handed out during the 1940 presidential campaign to promote republican Wendell Willkie for president. That year, President Franklin Roosevelt had broken American historical tradition of only serving two terms and announced he was going for his third. The 1920's and 30's had seen dictators like Stalin, Mussolini and Hitler rise to life-long power and this compares FDR's grab to totalitarianism. But we don't think it worked very well with the voters because Willkie got creamed at the polls.
