| Presidential Campaign | 1876 Rutherford Hayes |
Here's a pair of stereo view cards put out in 1878 (corrected in ink by hand) by the I.L. Rogers Company showing the 1876 victorious republican candidate, Rutherford Hayes and his wife, Lucy Webb Hayes as president and First Lady. Hayes won the closest election yet since it was only resolved after a long, convoluted process starting out in the U.S. House of Representatives over disputed vote counts coming in late. It was way worse than 2000 since there were no chads. After an Electoral Commission voted along party lines in early March 1877 to give the disputed electoral votes to Rutherford B. Hayes and William Wheeler, democrat Samuel Jones Tilden lost in the Electoral College by a single vote. Hayes was even sworn in early since many thought the March 4 Inauguration could become violent. And Lucy was about the first, First Lady who had received a college education. How's that for trivia? These are in nice condition but please enlarge our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with it. Remember, this stuff's called ephemera, folks, since it was made to be used and then discarded. So we're just lucky to have things like this in any condition to add to our collections. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases. Shipping on this will be $4.50 first class with tracking.
