I have for sale an 1884 presidential campaign token for James G. Blaine for president and John A. Logan for V.P. Blaine was an American statesman and republican politician who represented Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1863 to 1876, serving as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1869 to 1875 and then he served in the U.S. Senate from 1876 to 1881. Blaine was the Republican candidate for the 1884 presidential election, but he lost to Grover Cleveland, the Democrat candidate. John Logan was a soldier & politician. He served in the Mexican-American war and was a General in the Union army in the Civil War. He served the state of Illinois as a state representative and then went on to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives & then to the U.S. Senate. Logan was also the third commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic and is usually credited as being the originator of the Memorial Day holiday. The token is made of white metal, it is 1 1/2 inch in diameter and in a high-grade uncirculated condition. The obverse shows the facing bust of BLAINE & Logan in ovals with their names. Several stars surround the ovals. On the reverse it shows an eagle perched on a shield along with a banner and on the banner it reads PROTECTION TO - AMERICAN - INDUSTRY. At the bottom rim it reads REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES 1884. Please see over 850 more collectibles for sale in my EBAY STORE at TE Collectables. (18,893 DRA)
