Former film and TV actor, Ronald Reagan, ran for California Governor in 1966 and won two terms. This was during many of that state's student protests, over the Vietnam War and other issues, which made Berkeley famous and infamous. A law-and-order candidate and governor, tons of 1.25" cello button were sold in those hippy-dippy head shops to young people who thought they could get away with anything and resented when they got tear gassed. In light of all the comparable anti-pins while he was a two-term president that out there, a person can build a wonderful collection of trays filled with just anti-Reagan pinbacks. So, we thought we'd list some in our eBay store just for kicks since they're clever and fun. In May 1985, a planned trip to West Germany to show support for that NATO ally and Chancellor Helmut Kohl got President Reagan into some hot water. This was over the visit to a cemetery at Bitburg to honor the 40th anniversary of the German surrender of WWII. It came to light that 49 of the 2000 graves were those of members of the Nazi SS. A controversial back-and-forth soon occurred - to go or not - which you can research online, but this 2.5" cello was produced in order to protest that ceremonial visit of a U.S. President where German war dead were interred.
