Here's a 3.5" x 5.5" cardstock item singing the praises of Hubert Humphrey back when he was mayor of Minneapolis, Minnesota. First elected in 1945, he was re-elected in 1947 before being elected a U.S. senator the next year, (something Mayor Pete didn't do before he thought himself worthy of the highest office in the land). HHH in the senate became a liberal and civil rights darling, a 1950's VP contender, a 1960 primary rival of John Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson's 1964 VP pick. Then in 1968 he went full bore in the primaries against Eugene McCarthy (his state's other U.S. senator) and Robert Kennedy, ending up with the establishment's democrat party nomination after Bobby was shot in early June. But that Chicago convention fighting (literally in the streets) is legendary. Thereby weakened, he lost in a squeaker to another former vice-president, Richard Nixon, and then finished his life back in the U.S. senate. At bottom left on the newspaper clipping side you see the official, mayoral re-election campaign disclaimer.
