Back starting with the 1896 election, the Gold versus Silver issue became a big campaign argument. In fact, the fairly young democrat nominee, William Jennings Bryan, owed his top spot mainly because of a speech he made at the Democrat National Convention that year. Look up the "Cross of Gold" speech. The GOP was behind a monetary policy based on a Gold Standard of currency and their democrat opponents promoted silver. Buttons with candidate photos were made with the appropriate background colors and republicans were known as "Gold Bugs" and democrats "Silver Bugs." There were even tons of metal lapel pins with colored insects on them that are wildly sought after today. This .75" cello lapel stud shows the youthful, golden-voiced orator, Bryan, in a device that could be placed in the buttonhole of a man's dress coat. We hope it will be a nice addition for a beginning collector or a nice holiday gift for a young historian. It is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. There may be light surface wear and scratches as found on most all older pins. Shipping on it will be $5.85 sent well-protected with tracking. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. And we'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we don't. We just give you a refund for any overpayment. 9467
