2 5/8 inch x 4 5/8 inch, wonderful steel plate engraved trade card showing William "Boss" Tweed, head of the corrupt NYC Tammany Hall, around the time he blew his bail and, literally, jumped ship to head to Europe when his cronies began to talk. They caught him and brought him back, just around the time New York governor, Samuel Tilden, was running for president while NY governor. He was identified upon entry to Spain because of how he looked in all those Thomas Nast, Harper's Weekly engravings; a classic one of them is on this card. Advertising Gemmill, Burnham & Company, merchant tailors in Hartford, Ct. Condition is nice as shown so please look at the images to decide if you like it since it does have a couple spots on back from likely having been in a scrapbook. Looks like it may have been trimmed on left side. $5.50 for shipping with tracking. We will combine shipping costs.
